💡 About the Challenge
Welcome to the State-of-the-Art AI (SOTA-AI) Monthly Challenge.
In an industry flooded with API wrappers and prompt engineers, we are searching for the true builders. SOTA-AI is a student-driven initiative founded by medalists from the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI). We operate on a simple belief: true AI mastery requires versatility—the ability to handle structured data, natural language, and visual information with equal rigour.
This is not a hackathon where you stitch together pre-made services. This is a Kaggle-style engineering marathon designed to test your depth, not just your speed.
The Triad: Three Domains, One Engineer
To conquer this challenge, you must tackle three distinct tasks. We are testing your ability to generalize your skills across the entire AI landscape.
⚠️ Important Note: The exact problem statements, datasets, and evaluation metrics for the tasks below will be revealed on Day 1 of the challenge, both here on Devpost and on our Discord server.
📊 Task 1: Classical Machine Learning
-
The Domain: Structured / Tabular Data.
-
The Challenge: It all starts here. You will face a raw dataset requiring extensive feature engineering, handling of missing values, and the application of statistical learning models. This is about mathematical intuition, not just importing libraries.
-
The Goal: Prove that you understand the fundamentals—Regression, Classification, and the bias-variance tradeoff—before you attempt deep learning.
💬 Task 2: Natural Language Processing (NLP)
-
The Domain: Text & Sequence Data.
-
The Challenge: Move beyond simple API calls. You will be tasked with building, fine-tuning, or optimizing models that understand context and semantics. Whether the task involves sentiment analysis or sequence generation, you must own the architecture.
-
The Goal: Demonstrate your technical understanding of Embeddings, RNNs, or Transformer attention mechanisms.
👁️ Task 3: Computer Vision (CV)
-
The Domain: Image & Pixel Data.
-
The Challenge: Teach a machine to "see." You will work with image datasets to perform classification, segmentation, or object detection. You will need to handle data augmentation and architecture selection.
-
The Goal: Showcase your grasp of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Vision Transformers (ViTs).
Requirements
Ready to engineer the state of the art? Here is your roadmap for the next month. Please read the platform details carefully.
1. The Platform (CRITICAL)
⚠️ This competition is hosted on Kaggle.
To participate, you must follow this specific flow:
-
Step A: Join the Ecosystem.
The Secret Invite Link to the Kaggle Community Competition will ONLY be released inside our Discord Server (already 250+ members strong!). -
Step B: The Launch.
On December 9th @ 1:15 PM IST, we will drop the Kaggle link in the Discord announcement channel. This link gives you access to the datasets, the leaderboard, and the problem statements for all three tracks (Classical, NLP, CV).
2. The Timeline (IST - Indian Standard Time)
This is a marathon, not a sprint. Manage your time wisely.
-
🚀 Kickoff & Kaggle Link Drop:
December 9, 2025 — 1:15 PM
The Kaggle competition goes live. Join via Discord, get the data, and start your EDA immediately. -
🛠️ Competition Period:
December 9, 2025 — January 8, 2026
You have exactly one month to design your architectures, train your models, and climb the Kaggle leaderboard. -
🛑 Submission Deadline:
January 8, 2026 — 8:00 AM
You must submit your final predictions on Kaggle AND submit your project details (Notebook link) on Devpost before this time. No exceptions. -
⚖️ Judging & Review:
January 8 (9:00 AM) — January 10 (5:00 PM), 2026
Our panel of IOAI achievers will review your code for logic, efficiency, and architectural choices.
3. Submission Standard
We prioritize "Open Notebooks". To be eligible for prizes, your Devpost submission must include:
- Source Code: A link to your private Notebook (shared with sota.ai.community@gmail.com) on Google Drive.
- The Analysis: We don't just want the output; we want the logic. Your notebooks should be well-commented, explaining why you chose a specific model, loss function, or preprocessing technique.
- Note: We have separate prizes for the "Most Creative Solution," so don't just chase the leaderboard metric—chase the best engineering.
Ready to prove your versatility? Click "Join" and let's engineer the future.
